Oak Resin Table as a Home Office Desk—My Unique Tabletop No. TP47—Sold
The starting material for this project was a particularly “distinctive” oak plank. The customer wanted this plank cast into a rectangular frame made of transparent epoxy resin so it could be used as a display table at exhibitions and later as a desk in a home office.
A custom casting box was built specifically for this project to accommodate the particularly complex resin work. The actual casting process took about two weeks, and due to the many small cracks and holes, an enormous amount of rework was required. Sanding a resin table is generally very challenging, and even when applying hard wax oil, things can still go wrong if you’re not careful. However, (after a lot of work) everything turned out very well, and the happy customer was able to take delivery of the table of their dreams.
