This walnut dining table is truly one of a kind. The tree stood in my client’s garden near Heilbronn, and I cut it into lumber on site three years ago. This is now one of three dining tables I’ve had the privilege of crafting from it for his children. The two largest central planks were selected for this table; at approximately 204 cm long and 112 cm wide, it turned out to be quite large and is therefore perfect for gatherings with family and friends. It easily seats 8 people, and even more if necessary. All the natural edges were finished as naturally as possible entirely by hand and shaped to feel smooth to the touch. A table like this takes about 6–8 weeks to complete; the surface finishing alone took about three weeks in this case. The cracks and knots were filled with clear crystal resin and harmonize beautifully with this elegant and characterful walnut wood. The two pieces are screwed together separately on the underside using a steel frame; for this, I always use metal sleeve joints to ensure a particularly stable yet removable connection. The visible gap can also be easily adjusted in width—simply loosen the screws slightly and slide the pieces until they fit. Maintenance is very simple and quick; aside from the oil, everything you need is always on hand in every household. I always provide a briefing and a care guide with all the details upon delivery. In addition, my client also receives a video documenting the entire manufacturing process after delivery. This table will surely remain very dear to the next generation and become a cherished part of the “family.”
