The Material:
Made from a single piece (table blank) of oak from the Stuttgart Forest. The tree was felled by the forestry office in the winter of 2013–2014, and I was able to saw it on site shortly thereafter. This is the only log in my career so far that is completely straight-grained and, despite its enormous size, virtually free of warping. Only after many years of aging and the required kiln-drying was this one-of-a-kind table created through pure, painstaking handcraftsmanship.
No.: TP 23/Title: “Golden River” - Available
Dimensions: approx. 202 x 95 x 4 cm / 6,6 feet x 37 x 1,6 Inches
Location: In the lobby of the four-star+ “V8” Hotel in 71034 Böblingen-Motorworld
The Craft:
The table blank was cut in half lengthwise and rotated 180 degrees so that the natural edges face inward. The center was filled as a river table with an approximately 20 cm wide inlay of black crystal resin and adorned with a truly one-of-a-kind gold inlay that (unfortunately) cannot be reproduced even remotely. I tried this myself and conducted more than 25 tests, but I didn’t even come close to succeeding… it is and remains a truly one-of-a-kind piece, ideal as a prestigious desk, display table, or even as an extremely unusual dining table. The elaborate surface finish—which involves multiple coats of organic hard oil followed by a hard wax oil polish - gives the wood an unparalleled depth and texture and makes the table durable enough for everyday use.
