The Material:

This one-of-a-kind dining table was crafted from two magnificent, very large solid oak planks from the same tree. The tree came from a forestry office in the Nuremberg region, so it is locally sourced wood. My customers had picked out these two items themselves at my warehouse in Leifelden, near Stuttgart.

The Craft:

These two carefully selected oak planks were prepared after the wood pattern was finalized and glued together using traditional methods. Before starting work, I always measure the current moisture content again to ensure that the initial conditions are perfect; in this case, I had to dry the wood—which had already been kiln-dried—a second time, since the moisture content had risen slightly due to the wet winter months. After clarifying the customer’s wishes and the details, I was able to get started. The cracks and knots were filled with crystal resin, the natural edges were carved out, and the entire table was meticulously sanded by hand before being oiled with furniture oil until the wood reached its saturation point.
