The Material:
The base for this designer piece by Couchtisch consists of a single piece of red oak that is approximately 200 years old. This natural monument, with a documented planting date of 1820, comes from a park in Hohenheim near Stuttgart, and I was able to cut it on-site many years ago. It is an outer plank and the only one (a one-of-a-kind piece) with this spectacular shape.
The Craft:
The natural edge of the tree has been preserved and gently shaped; cracks and knots have been filled with crystal resin; and the surface has been treated in multiple stages with oil and hard wax oil to make it easy to care for and durable.
