A customer from Bavaria had this approx. 6m long ancient oak trunk at his disposal and had us saw it into tabletop blanks. The tree stood alone on a property boundary in the middle of a large meadow or field. The farmer of the arable land always had difficulties driving his tractor under the branches and so he was quite happy for the tree to die. As the trunk was too big to be processed into firewood, it ended up in the hands of my customer, who fortunately had an eye for this “treasure”.

On Friday 11.04.2025 the time had come. As we had a journey of approx. 165 km, we left Stuttgart at 07:00 in the morning. At 09:00 we were on site and started with the work. The original aim was to saw the main trunk, which was approx. 3 m long and had a diameter of approx. 120 to 140 cm, into table tops. On site, we then decided to first cut off a large piece at the base of the root so that it could later be sawn into slices. The customer actually wanted to make a sculpture out of the large, approx. 3 m long head piece and place it in his yard.

After we had sawn the main trunk by about 15:00, Patrick came up with the idea of cutting a slice from it as well. It was so incredibly beautiful and the cut (freehand with a 150 cm sword) worked so well that we ended up with 4 large (up to 160 cm/5,2 feet diameter) slices and a “monster” slice with a diameter of perhaps up to 200 cm/6,6 feet and a thickness of 60 cm/24 Inches.

Our customer Stephan only needs one large plank for a table top later and one slice for a tree slice table. The rest of the wood is available and can be purchased from me or ordered from me later (after the obligatory drying period of at least 4-5 years), i.e. from May 2029 at the earliest, as a table top.
